Purpose of the Fond du Lac
Police Chaplaincy Division

Sometimes police officers are called into situations where they sense a spiritual counselor would be helpful. Initial police assistance in said situations is important, but extended involvement keeps the officer away from other urgent situations. For this reason clergy from the Fond du Lac area have joined forces with the Fond du Lac City Police Department to provide a chaplains division.

The police chaplains division offers spiritual guidance and assistance to people in crisis situations. It also serves as a link of communications between people in crisis and their own spiritual advisors. If those who receive counseling ask for further help the chaplain will coordinate such follow-up guidance as is necessary.

Believing that God is the answer to man's dilemma, the chaplain stands ready to bear witness to the forgiving love and redeeming power of God to all people confronted with a crisis.

The police chaplain is to be an aid to the Fond du Lac City Police Officers and the citizens of Fond du Lac through a field service ministry, to provide spiritual guidance, counseling and comfort in times of crisis. With such physical help as chaplains are equipped to give on an emergency basis. This includes putting people in contact with the appropriate agencies to help them.

History of the Fond du Lac Police
Chaplains Division

The Fond du Lac Police Chaplains Division became operational on June 1, 1994. It was organized as a volunteer ministry for all clergy in the Fond du Lac area that were interested. At that time we began with 25 clergy from the Fond du Lac area. It is offered as a public service of the Fond du Lac Police Department to the citizens of the Fond du Lac area.

The police chaplain is appointed by the Chief of Police with the advisement and consent of the Chaplain's Liaison Officer. The assistant police chaplains are appointed by the Chief of Police with the advisement of consent of the head chaplain.

Original doubts of some police officers were quickly erased as police officers throughout the City began to utilize the service.

A chaplain's vehicle was donated by a local car dealership from the City of Fond du Lac. It is used by the police chaplain on duty. The duty chaplain is also provided with a pager so that he/she can be reached at anytime during their tour of duty. The most important ingredient in the program is the love of God shown through the chaplains themselves.

Personnel

The police chaplains division is made up of clergy representing all the major religious faiths in our community. Each chaplain is on duty for a 24 hour period each month. Their time is completely donated.

The chaplains division seeks to serve man and honor God. "In as much as you have done it to the least of these my brothers you have done it to me." Each day the members of the police chaplains division are busy living that commandment.

Services Offered

The police chaplains assist the law enforcement agencies in the Fond du Lac area. Law Enforcement officers request the police chaplain in situations involving spiritual or emotional problems rather than problems involving law violations.

A person can request counsel with a police chaplain by calling the police department or contacting the police chaplain's office at (920) 929-7562. A police chaplain regularly provides help in areas of:
