Police Citizen Academy

Citizen Police Academies provide the public with a working knowledge of their respective law enforcement agency's mission, operations, policies, and personnel. This knowledge helps to create cooperation and mutual trust between citizens and police officers and breaks down the barriers which may create suspicion and misconception about an agency. In addition, citizens graduating from such Academies can take what they have learned back to their neighborhoods to further the cooperative efforts between departments and the communities they serve.

Keeping these goals in mind the Fond du Lac Police Department developed a Citizen Police Academy in March of 2000. The Academy runs for 8 consecutive weeks on a designated week night with each session running for approximately three hours. Topics covered include hiring practices and procedures, domestic violence issues, firearms, officer safety issues, and other pertinent areas.

The Academy will run once a  year starting September. Class size is limited to 15 and students must be at least 18 years old and reside or work in the city of Fond du Lac. Applications can be picked up at the Fond du Lac Police Department records kiosk Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM or by calling 322-3745.
