Sergeant Steve Klein and Zeiko

Zeiko, a German Shepherd, was born in Germany in 1993.  Zeiko was imported to the United States by Stieningtal Kennels of Campbellsport, Wisconsin.  Zeiko was the 2nd youngest dog to graduate from the North Central Canine Institute in May of 1995.  Zeiko was the first K-9 assigned to official duties with the Fond du Lac Police Department.

Sergeant Steve Klein has been a Fond du Lac Police Officer since 1990.   Since becoming partners in 1995, Zeiko and Officer Klein  made numerous felony finds and apprehensions.

Most Memorable Arrest - Zeiko was largely responsible for the apprehension of 2 armed robbery suspects.  One suspect was armed with a 9mm pistol with a laser sight.  After robbing a gas station at gun point in Winnebago County, the suspects led police on a high speed chase.  The suspects were finally forced off the road in Fond du Lac County.  Two suspects fled into a farm field.   Zeiko was released by Officer Klein.  Zeiko pursued and apprehended the first suspect mid-field.  Zeiko then located the second suspect laying down in the   filed about 100 feet from the first suspect. No one was injured in the incident.

Sergeant Klein retired Zeiko in September of 2001.  Zeiko sadly passed away in June of 2002 after a brief illness.
